The Best Time to Visit Peleș Castle: A Month-by-Month Guide

Carpathian seasons, the daily crowd rhythm, and the timed slots that get you into the Hall of Honour before the morning rush.

Updated June 2026 · Peleș Castle Tickets Concierge Team

Peleș Castle is open Wednesday to Sunday for most of the year, so the real questions are when the forest looks its best, when the crowds are thinnest, and how to get the entry slot you want. Because tickets are timed and capped at around 2,000 a day, the right planning makes the difference between a relaxed visit and a sold-out afternoon. Here is how the castle feels through the seasons and across a single day.

Season by season

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) are the sweet spot: mild days in the mountains, green or golden forest, and fewer coaches than the July–August peak. Summer is warm and lively but the busiest and wettest season, with June the rainiest month. Winter is cold and snowy — the castle interior stays open and looks magical under snow, but the uphill approach can be icy, so wear proper footwear.

One date to plan around: Peleș closes for the whole of November every year for maintenance. If you're travelling then, the neighbouring Pelișor usually stays open, so a Sinaia trip still works.

Autumn — the photographer's window

The forest of firs and beeches around the castle turns gold, rust and red from mid-October, peaking in late October. Pair that colour with thinner crowds and crisp, clear air and it is arguably the finest time to see Peleș. Slots are easier to get than in midsummer, but weekends still fill, so book ahead.

The best slot of the day

Aim for the first entry of the day — 09:15 Thursday to Sunday, or 10:00 on Wednesday — when the rooms are calmest and the light through the stained glass is at its best. Crowds build noticeably from around 11:00 in peak season. Weekdays (Thursday and Friday) are quieter than weekends.

Because entry is timed and capped, the early and mid-morning slots for summer weekends often sell out a week or more ahead. Reserving in advance is the surest way to lock in the hour you want — which is exactly what we handle for you.

Frequently asked

When is Peleș Castle closed?

Every Monday and Tuesday, and for the whole of November for annual maintenance. Pelișor next door usually stays open in November.

What's the quietest time to visit?

The first slot of the day on a weekday, and outside the July–August peak. Late September and October are ideal for both light and crowds.

How far ahead should I book?

For summer weekends and holidays, a week or two ahead is wise — timed slots are capped and the best times sell out. Shoulder-season weekdays are easier.

Is winter a good time to go?

Yes for atmosphere — the castle looks beautiful under snow and the interior is warm. Just wear shoes with grip for the icy walk up from Sinaia.
